Premium memory maker Patriot has just announced a new range of triple-channel memory kits for X58-based LGA1366 systems, boasting speeds of up to 2GHz.
Patriot says the new Sector 7 Edition kits are an extension of the dual-channel Sector 5 kits, which were apparently "well received." The new Sector 7 kits aren't hitting the 2.4GHz clock speeds of the Sector 5 kits yet, but they do come in speeds of 1.6GHz (PC3-12800), 1.8GHz (PC3-14000) and 2GHz (PC3-16000). ж
The latter two speeds are only available in 6GB (3x 2GB) kits, with latency timings of 9-9-9-27 and a voltage of 1.65V. However, the PC3-12800 is available in a variety of configurations.
The 6GB and 12GB versions come in Enhanced Latency and Low Latency versions, with timings of 9-9-9-24 and 8-8-8-24 respectively. There's also a 24GB PC3-12800 kit that runs a 9-9-9-24. ж
According to Patriot, each of the premium modules is hand-tested and backed by a lifetime warranty. The company says the Sector 7 DIMMs only use top-quality chips, and are "subjected to rigorous testing and validation on the X58 platform." ж
The module package is completed by a fancy-looking heatspreader, which Patrior says is made from extruded aircraft-grade aluminium. This, says Patriot, enables the modules to quickly dissipate heat, resulting in "in improved stability and reliability during extreme overclocking conditions." ж
Patriot's vice president of engineering, Les Henry, said the new Sector 7 range were "uniquely positioned for the enthusiast," adding that they fitted neatly with Patriot's "objective of offering the latest technology and best performance in our product line-up."ж
There's no word on pricing yet, but a 6GB pair of comparable Sector 5 PC3-12800 Low Latency modules currently goes for Ј89.29 inc VAT, so you can expect a similarly-specified triple-channel kit to cost around Ј130.
