How long does it take to install Virgin Media broadband?

Last updated: 11 February 2022

You’ve chosen a new broadband plan from Virgin Media and are eager to get online. How long will you be waiting? It depends on whether your address has had a Virgin Media connection before.

If your address has had a Virgin Media connection in the past, you’ll be able to complete the installation yourself. Virgin Media will post a QuickStart box to you. You should receive it within four days. However, if you’re moving into a property with an active Virgin Media account from the previous occupant, delivery could take up to 14 days while that account is closed.

The QuickStart box will include everything you need to install the service you’ve chosen, including a router and cables, and an easy-to-follow guide. Virgin estimates that  it should take around 40 minutes to complete your broadband installation. If you’re installing broadband, TV, and a phone line, the process should take around one hour and 15 minutes.

If you’re concerned you won’t manage the installation yourself, you can opt for a technician to do it for you. This costs £40, and you’ll be given the next available appointment. Waiting times vary, but you should receive a visit from an engineer within 14 days.

If your property hasn’t had a previous Virgin Media connection, you’ll need an engineer to complete the installation, with appointments typically available within 14 days. When they arrive, the technician should complete the installation within two hours.
