What is Sky Cinema?

Sky Cinema is Sky's collection of 11 channels dedicated to showing the latest and greatest in film, as well as a large selection of on demand movies. It isn’t just limited to Sky broadband and TV customers, however, as BT, Virgin Media, TalkTalk and NOW all offer Sky Cinema channels as an add-on to their broadband and TV bundles.

Competition for Sky Cinema is hotter than ever in 2020 with all manner of online movie streaming sites operating in a flooded market. Despite this Sky have held onto their reputation as one of the most trusted options for film buffs, thanks in no small part to their ongoing agreement with many Hollywood studios for exclusive first showings of many big blockbuster titles. Sometimes you can watch a movie on Sky Cinema up to a year before it's available on other movie or streaming services.

Other than original programming such as Netflix or Amazon Originals, it's likely that Sky Cinema is the first place you'll be able to watch any given film on your television.

What can I watch on Sky Cinema?

There are 11 channels dedicated to feature-length films on Sky Cinema:

  • Sky Cinema Premiere
  • Sky Cinema Hits
  • Sky Cinema Greats
  • Sky Cinema Disney
  • Sky Cinema Family
  • Sky Cinema Action
  • Sky Cinema Comedy
  • Sky Cinema Romance
  • Sky Cinema Thriller
  • Sky Cinema Sci-Fi and Horror
  • Sky Cinema Select

Each of these channels is dedicated to a particular genre, while Sky Cinema Premiere shows a brand-new movie every day. Please note that these channels will often change their names during promotional periods, for example Sky Cinema Family might be Sky Cinema Christmas.

All Sky Cinema channels are also available in HD, which is not the case with Sky Entertainment channels, unless you upgrade to the Sky Ultra HD package.

As well as these 11 channels, which update their films every month, you can watch more than 1,000 movies on demand with Sky Cinema. Sky have also recently begun to follow the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime by creating Sky Cinema Originals, which are usually available to all Sky Cinema customers as soon as they’re released in the cinema.

Paramount+

Since June 2022, Sky has included Paramount+ with all Sky Cinema packages. Paramount+ is a brand new streaming service from one of the world’s most recognised production companies, and was launched to be a rival to other streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+.

With Paramount+, you’ll get access to a whole host of blockbuster movies to watch on demand, as well as a number of original series such as Halo and Star Trek: Strange New World. You can also watch a range of iconic series including South Park and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Paramount+ is now included with all Sky Cinema packages at no extra cost. It would normally cost £6.99 per month with Paramount+.

How to get Sky Cinema

Many people might believe that Sky Cinema is exclusively for Sky TV customers because of the name, but this simply isn’t true. Other providers will offer Sky Cinema as an add-on when you sign up to their broadband and TV bundle packages. You can watch Sky Cinema with the following providers:

Sky TV

If you’re currently a Sky TV customer, adding Sky Cinema to your Sky Entertainment package is pretty straightforward. However, doing so will extend your contract for another 18 months, so bare this in mind when looking for a deal.

Virgin Media TV

Virgin Media customers can also get all Sky Cinema channels added on to their TV package for an extra monthly fee. Some Virgin Media TV and broadband deals even include Sky Cinema as standard, including the Ultimate Volt bundle and the Full House Movies bundle.

BT TV

Sky Cinema can also be added to your BT TV package for an extra monthly cost. However, you must be a BT fibre broadband customer to take full advantage and watch all 11 channels live. If you only have BT’s standard broadband and TV package, you will be limited to Sky Cinema on demand.

NOW

You can watch all 11 Sky Cinema channels with NOW TV’s Sky Cinema Membership. The best thing about these membership cards is that they are available on a rolling monthly basis, meaning you’re free to cancel your service at any time. You also don’t need a traditional TV with NOW, as you can download the NOW TV app to your mobile, tablet or computer and watch on there.

TalkTalk TV

You can watch Sky Cinema as a TalkTalk TV customer, although you will have to do so via a NOW membership. You can access this through your TalkTalk TV set-top box, where you can then select the Sky Cinema membership to be added to your subscription.

How much is Sky Cinema?

The price varies depending on your subscription service but in general it's £11 per month to add Sky Cinema to a current Sky TV deal, or £11.99 a month to get a Sky Cinema pass on Now TV. While Now TV is a little more expensive, it means you'll be able to cancel anytime, and it can be installed on a large range of devices as well as having a dedicated app on YouView+ boxes such as BT and Talk Talk.

How to cancel Sky Cinema

If you're using Now TV, you're in luck! All you need to do is log into your Now TV account, head to “Passes & Vouchers” and click “Cancel Pass” on your Sky Cinema pass.

If you subscribe to Sky itself it's a case of emailing them through their website (https://skytv.custhelp.com/app/contactus/emailus) to cancel the package in question. Sky have a minimum one month subscription period for their packages so you'll have to see out the first month of your Sky Cinema subscription before you're able to begin the cancellation process.
