Who is Utility Warehouse?

A true one-stop shop for all your essential household services, Utility Warehouse (UW) offers a variety of products, including gas and electricity, telecom services, home insurance and boiler care. The company, set up in 2013, is one of the oldest gas and energy providers in the UK apart from the Big Six.

UW is a subsidiary of Telecom Plus, a multi-utility supplier based in London. The company recently increased its market share to 650,000 customers by buying over Npower’s customer base.

What does their gas and electricity package provide?

One of UW’s unique advantages is that it combines multiple offerings, allowing you to choose the services you want in a tailor-made plan. At the end of the month, they send you a combined bill that covers all your chosen services.

Utility Warehouse gas and electric plans are focused on delivering better value than the Big Six suppliers, through what they call an “Energy Price Guarantee” that assures you of paying competitive rates for your energy supply. Tariffs are priced according to the type and number of services you choose, allowing you to save more if your plan includes more than one of their offerings.

Utility Warehouse has a wide range of special signup offers for customers; for example, customers who switch from their current provider to UW can be compensated with up to £200 for early termination charges. They also offer a 7% cashback offer at top energy retailers if customers have a UW Cashback Card.

Their most popular tariffs are:

Value Tariff

Their most basic variable tariff, the Value Energy plan promises to be at least 0.5% cheaper than any tariffs that the Big Six provide. A study found that for a London based postcode with average energy usage, the Value Tariff cost around £1,060.

Double Gold Tariff

A plan that combines the best of UW’s services, the Double Gold tariff includes phone, broadband and energy services and can be customized as per your requirements. It offers an additional discount for selecting a dual fuel tariff.

What are Utility Warehouse customer reviews like?

Although not one of the Big Six, Utility Warehouse has certainly made an impact in the UK energy market. It has a Trustpilot score of 4.1 (considered “great”), and came 14th out of 35 in the Which? energy customer survey.

Customer reviews mention reliable service at reasonable prices. However, their responsiveness and complaints handling process have come under fire for not being as good as other providers. The main draw for customers is the single monthly bill that bundles together all utilities.

How to cancel a Utility Warehouse contract

Utility Warehouse offers a 14-day cooling off period for new accounts, during which you can decide whether to retain their services. In case you cancel your Utility Warehouse account after this date, you may be liable for termination charges, depending on the terms of your contract. The best way to cancel your Utility Warehouse account is to call their customer support team, who can guide you through the process.
