At a glance

  • Apple’s latest A15 Bionic processor
  • 6.1-inch 120Hz OLED display
  • Triple 12MP rear cameras
  • Much better battery life
  • Up to 1TB of internal storage

Highlights

  • Released as part of the iPhone 13 range in September 2021, the iPhone 13 Pro has an improved performance to its predecessor thanks to the Apple’s new A15 Bionic chip.
  • Comes with an improved triple 12-megapixel camera on the rear, including Apple’s first telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
  • The 120Hz OLED display makes the 6.1-inch screen look incredibly slick and fluid, and is one of Apple’s brightest yet.

Design & Appearance

At first glance, the iPhone 13 Pro looks extremely similar to the iPhone 12 Pro. But take a closer look, and you’ll notice two striking differences.

First of all, the smaller notch allows the bright and vibrant display to take up more of the front of the phone. And on the back, you’ll notice a significantly larger camera bump than previous models.

The iPhone 13 Pro measures 146.7mmx71.5mmx7.65mm, which is exactly the same as the iPhone 13. However, weighing 204 grams, it carries a fair bit more weight than the base model.

Camera

Like its predecessor, the iPhone Pro 13 has three 12-megapixel cameras on the rear. This includes an f/1.8 ultra wide-angle lens, an f/1.5 wide-angle lens, and an f/2.8 telephoto lens. It also has a 12-megapixel camera on the front.

The iPhone 13 Pro’s camera, along with that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max, allows for 3x optical zoom – the first iPhones to do so. However, this doesn’t quite match the 10x optical zoom capabilities that the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra can provider.

That being said, the iPhone 13 Pro has one of the best cameras of any smartphone right now. The video-recording is top of the range too, especially with the new Cinematic Mode.

Display

Like the iPhone 13, the 13 Pro has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen, but its 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate significantly improves the display’s performance.

The screen has a resolution of 2532x1170 pixels, at a density of 460 pixels per inch.

Software & Features

The iPhone 13 Pro runs on iOS 15, Apple’s most up to date operating system, and it has a few new features not seen on the previous model.

One of the most useful features is the all-new Focus mode. This allows you to easily customise your notifications at certain times of the day, for example when you’re at work or going to sleep.

It also has improved FaceTime functionality, allowing you to call non-Apple users for the first time, while many of its core apps, including the Safari browser, have updated designs and enhanced performance.

Performance

Thanks to the powerful A15 Bionic processor, Apple’s latest and greatest chip, along with its 6GB of RAM, the iPhone 13 Pro’s overall performance is one of the best out there. It also has an improved 5-core GPU, compared to the iPhone 13’s quad-core GPU.

It starts with 128GB of internal storage, but goes up to a massive 1TB – almost double the maximum storage of the iPhone 12 Pro. And the battery life, while not quite as long-lasting as the 13 Pro Max’s, is much improved compared to the previous generation.
