Highlights
The iPhone X features a Super Retina OLED display that offers superior colours and contrast at a resolution of 2436 x 1125 and a pixel density of 458 pixels per inch.
The device has a larger screen than any of the previous generation iPhone’s despite being only marginally bigger than the relatively compact iPhone 8.
The iPhone X’s glass body is IP67 water and dust resistant and can be charged wirelessly using any Qi-certified charging accessory.
Design & Appearance
The iPhone X measures 143.6mm x 70.9mm x 7.7mm and weighs in at 174g.
At the time of its release, the iPhone X was the first new iPhone design since the iPhone 6 which launched in 2014.
Unlike previous iPhone models, the iPhone X has no Home button, no fingerprint sensor for Touch ID, and no bottom bezel.
The iPhone X comes in space grey and silver, with both colours having a pearlescent look due to the seven-layer inking process that Apple uses.
Camera
FaceID on the iPhone X is powered by the 3D TrueDepth front-facing camera, which takes high-quality selfies at 7MP. The camera also supports 1080p HD video recording with auto HDR, auto image stabilisation, and Retina Flash.
The vertically arranged dual-lens rear camera on the iPhone X takes 12MP images with its f/1.8 wide-angle lens, and 12MP images with its f/2.4 telephoto lens.
Display
The iPhone X’s Super Retina display is the first HDR OLED display that Apple has put into an iPhone. The OLED display has a 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio, bringing deeper blacks and more vivid true-to-life colours.
OLED displays usually have lower brightness and poor colour accuracy, but Apple has used ‘breakthrough’ technology to overcome this leading them to claim that the screen has the best colour accuracy ‘in the industry’.
Software & Features
Apple redesigned the user interface on the iPhone X due to the lack of a Home button. This has resulted in a more intuitive experience for the user.
FaceID facial recognition is used to unlock the device, and accessing the Home screen is as simple as swiping up from the bottom of the device.
The iPhone X’s TrueDepth camera also allows users to create animated 3D emoji characters called ‘Animoji’. These are controlled with your face, with the TrueDepth camera’s analysis of over 50 muscle movements.
Performance
The iPhone X has a six-core 2.4GHz A11 Bionic chip powering it on the inside. The chip can harness its two performance cores and four high-efficiency cores simultaneously for much improved battery life and upto 70% better overall performance.
When compared to the previous generation’s A10 processor, the A11’s two performance cores are 25% faster, and its efficiency cores are 70% faster.
