Highlights

Quick Gestures and Motion Sensor allow you to skip songs and respond to actions on your phone, all without even touching your handset.

Adaptive battery – the battery learns what your favourite apps are and reduces power of the ones you don’t use often.

Face-unlock authentication – security is better than ever when your face is your password.

Design & Appearance

Dimensions of the Pixel 4 are 5.8in x 2.7in x 0.3in and it weighs 162g. It’s made from an aluminum frame with Corning Gorilla glass, so it’s damage resistant as well as dustproof and water-resistant. While the frame doesn’t feel as premium as some other devices, it does offer better grip than glass models.

It uses a USB-C charging port – no headphone jack, sorry guys – and there are two keys on the right-hand side for lock and volume controls. The Pixel 4 is available in Just Black, Clearly White and Oh So Orange.

Camera

The Pixel 4 has an ultra HD 4K dual-rear camera with a super resolution zoom. Cameras are 16mpx and 12.2mpx, so it’s one for the budding videographers and photographers out there. These are wide-angle and telephoto lenses so you’re sure to get amazing snaps. The front camera is 8mpx, using many of the image processing tricks available to the rear camera. Another great feature we've loved in all the Pixels so far is Night Sight, which makes photos in the dark come out great, is much faster than before in the Pixel 4.

It’s also got image stabilisation, a dual-tone LED flash, build in Live HDR+ mode and a BSI (back-illuminated sensor) to improve those low-light shots.

Software & Features

The Pixel 4 uses the Android 10 operating system, with guaranteed 3 years of software and security updates. Other key features include:

  • Face recognition for authentication rather than fingerprints, and it’s scanning tech is one of the fastest on available handsets.
  • Google Next Generation Assistant
  • AR effects for video-calling through Duo
  • 5G support
  • DNLA certified and is a multi-user system
  • Offline voice recognition
  • Stereo sound so you’ll receive a fuller sound experience.

Performance

The Pixel 4 uses the Snapdragon 855 chip and has continued use of its Titan M security chip (which is of the same ilk of security Google use for their cloud servers, so you’d expect it to keep your data pretty secure!). The handset comes with 6GB RAM, plus you can run 64-bit apps, too.

The battery offers 16.2 hours of talk time and is 2800 mAh, so it’s not as good as other Pixel models. But it does support fast-charging, wireless technologies and has an ultra power-saving mode, too. Plus, you can use your device as a charging dock to power other gadgets.
