Football fans will be able to watch Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the Champions League Final on 26th May for free on even without a BT Sport subscription.
They will also be streaming tonight’s Europa League final between Marseille and Atletico Madrid in the same way.
This will be the third Champions League final in a row that BT Sport has made free to air, representing their “promise to make live sport more widely accessible” - a promise they maintain despite the fact that from next year, they will no longer be allowing Freeview viewers to watch at least 12 games a season, as is the case currently.
Pete Oliver, MD of marketing and sales at BT Consumer, said: “To have Liverpool in the Uefa Champions League final is fantastic. We have always said that we want to make top quality sport available to more people and so once again we will be making the Uefa Champions League final and the Uefa Europa League final available to all to watch online for free.”
Those without a BT Sport subscription will be able to view both games in 4K Ultra HD either on the BT Sport app, on the BT Sport website, or on Youtube. Subscribers will get additional perks including access to 360° highlights of the Champions League final on the BT Sport app.
Withdrawing fans’ ability to watch the final for free would no doubt cause immense upset and, with any luck, BT will do the same next year. But to get the full season’s football, customers will still need a BT Sport subscription, which is available as an add-on to their broadband and tv packages. Those who sign up between 23rd and 29th of May will get 3 months of BT Sport for free.
