One Million Virgin Media Customers to Get Faster Broadband for Free

happy-customer-2

Over a million lucky Virgin Media customers will receive a free boost to their broadband speeds over the coming months, the firm has announced.

Current Virgin Media customers who signed up to the provider’s M50 broadband package before 1 December 2019, as well as customers on the L50, L70 and Capped Fibre 20 packages, are eligible for the free upgrade.

Eligible customers will be switched onto Virgin Media’s M100 broadband tariff, which offers average download speeds of 108Mbps, over double the national average of 54.2Mbps. According to the broadband provider, over half a million customers will benefit from their broadband speeds doubling, while some will even see their speeds increase by 500%.

The speed boost will be automatic as well as being free, meaning eligible customers don’t need to do anything to benefit from faster download speeds, other than wait for confirmation of the upgrade which will come in the next few weeks.

The upgrades started at the beginning of this week, at a rate of 20,000 customers per day, according to Virgin Media. They are expected to be completed by the end of March this year. Virgin Media is one of the biggest broadband providers in the UK, with over 5 million domestic broadband customers.

“We’re starting 2020 with a broadband bang by rewarding our loyal customers with this free speed upgrade so even more people can experience our ultrafast, future-proof connectivity,” said Annie Brooks, executive director of connectivity at Virgin Media.

“As the UK’s fastest widely available broadband provider, we want to banish buffering and let our customers live without limits so they can do everything they want to online, at the same time, without delay. Whether they’re streaming UHD movies on demand while downloading the latest game, or simply browsing the web, we’ve got our customers covered.”
