What does ‘roaming’ mean?
Roaming is when you use your phone outside of the UK to stay connected with friends and family via calls, texts, and sending/receiving data.
Can I roam with my goodybag?
You can use your goodybag allowances when you roam within the EU and selected destinations. This means that your phone will work just like it does when you’re at home, and calls, texts, and data will all be deducted from your allowances as they usually do.
If you use up your goodybag allowance whilst roaming outside of the country, you will be charged the standard pay as you go rates for any excess calls, texts, or data usage. However, if you are on the £20 or £25 Always On goodybags, you’ll be charged a slightly different rate (see below)
How will I be charged for roaming in the EU and selected destinations if I have the £20 or £25 Always On goodybag?
If you have the £20 goodybag, you can use up to 20GB of your allowance whilst roaming in the EU and selected destinations. If this 20GB roaming allowance is used up, then you will be charged 0.36p per MB of data you use. If you then use up the entire UK 80GB allowance, you’ll be charged the standard pay as you go rate.
If you have the £25 Always On goodybag, you will receive 20GB or full speed 4G data before you start getting charged 0.36p per MB transferred.
Which countries can I roam in?
These are the EU countries and selected destinations that you can roam in:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Martinique, Mayotte, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden
If the country you are visiting is not on this list, you will not be able to roam in that destination as GiffGaff does not have an agreement with that country.
What isn’t covered by my goodybag when roaming?
Special numbers (08 numbers and premium rate numbers) and other services (e.g. roaming charges and international calls) are not included in your goodybag and so you will need to add credit to your account in order to use them.
What counts as ‘fair use’ when roaming?
GiffGaff’s fair use policy is quite extensive and can be found here.
In general, the services you use must be used for personal (non-commercial) and private purposes. Also, fair usage only applies to goodybag use, not how your credit balance is used.
*Average speeds are based on the download speeds that at least 50% of customers get between 8pm and 10pm (peak time). Remember that this is a rough guide, you may see higher or lower speeds than those listed here.
Some providers may increase their monthly costs during your contract. Check their individual sites for specific terms and conditions.
