Best VPN services 2021
A Virtual Private Network, or VPN, is a browsing tool that allows you to surf the web while keeping your traffic encrypted and identity secret from both your broadband provider and any unwanted observers.  This gives you an extra layer of protection against anyone who might want to monitor your behaviour online and potentially steal sensitive information.

We have put together our top VPN picks of 2021 to help you understand the different options out there.

Tunnel Bear

Endpoints: 22

Free version

Cost: £0

Speed: 86Mbit/s

Paid

Cost £7.37 per month

Speed 203mbit/s.

Tunnelbear benefits from offering both a freemium option and a paid option, but if you don’t want to pay you will find your connection speed seriously reduced and you may struggle to do much else beyond normal browsing.

The free version also only allows you a maximum of 500mb of data per month, though you can boost this to 1GB if you tweet about how great you think they are. If you decide to fork out for the subscription option then these speed restrictions and data allowances evaporate. This means Tunnelbear unlimited often finds itself ranked highly among average VPN speeds and is a great all round VPN. While it doesn’t have as many features as some other VPN services on this list, it is a decent free service and good speeds on a paid plan make it a great option.

Surfshark

Endpoints: 65

Monthly: £9.36 per month

6 Months: £28.14 (£4.69 per month)

24 Months: £43.19 (£180 per month

Speed: 393 Mbit/s

Surfshark offers one of the best value VPN options if you go for the longer term deals plans. They offer a range of impressive features to keep you anonymous while browsing. One of these features, ‘multi hop connections’, hides where you originated from by using two distinct endpoints.

They don’t have a free option and you only get a competitive price when you opt for 6 months or more, but they do have a 30 day trial so you can make sure you are happy before you have to commit.

Express VPN

Endpoints: 95

Cost: £76 per year

Speed: 175 Mbit/s

Express VPN is one of the providers that can safely say it has a strict no-logging policy. This means that no details that you enter while using it are logged anywhere on it’s system so there’s nothing for anyone to get hold of. It also offers an incredibly reliable and fast connection which makes it a fantastic option if you want to use it for streaming.

For it’s top notch security and robust connections, we would certainly rank this as one of the best VPNs out there. However, the extra bells and whistles might not be worthwhile for all users and it only comes with a hefty yearly subscription, So best suited for people who need the most out of their VPN service.

Nord VPN

Endpoints: 59

Monthly £9.20

Yearly: £45 (£3.75 per month)

2 Yearly: £68 (£2.80 per month)

Speed 174 Mbit/s

Similar to Surfshark, Nord’s VPN service only starts to get really competitive when you opt for a longer contract, but they also have a 30 day money back guarantee. When it comes to performance Nord offers lightning fast connection speeds due to their custom built Nordlynx protocol.

As well as speed they also have some really desirable security features, such as the option for double encryption. The perfect option for those of you who are extra careful about your online safety.
