Think other people have a better mobile phone deal than you? Get ready, as the envious becomes the envied! We divulge our tips and tricks to make sure you’re getting the best mobile deal on the market.
When looking to get a new mobile phone deal, you have a few options of how you want to pay.
If you’re after the latest model or need a new phone, then consider a Pay Monthly contract. With these, you choose a phone and the package of minutes, texts and data you want, which is all paid for in monthly instalments; contracts typically span 12-24 months. If you don’t need a new handset, (perhaps you’re fond of your current one!), then you can look to SIM Only or SIM-free deals.
SIM Only deals are increasingly popular. As the name suggests, you don’t purchase a new phone, meaning contracts are just for the minutes, texts and data you need. You’re not tied in to paying off the handset, so SIM Only contracts are usually shorter. You can even get them on a month-by-month basis, meaning you can switch when you find a better deal elsewhere.
SIM-free deals are when you top up credit to your mobile phone in order to make calls, texts or use data. You’re not tied into a contract; you just pay for what you use. It’s more expensive per unit, but if you don’t use your phone very often it can be more economical and, in addition, you won’t need to pass a credit check.
When you’re looking for contracts and SIM Only deals, what you pay for can vary hugely between networks. As such, there are a few things you want to consider when choosing which mobile network to give your hard-earned cash to.
The Big Four (EE, O2, Three and Vodafone) are the dominant players in the market and can offer the widest range of deals. While some of the latest handset releases may only be available on these networks, that doesn’t necessarily mean they offer the best deals. Smaller networks can offer great value for money as well as top customer service. Consider GiffGaff, Voxi and BT too, and really look into exactly what’s on offer.
What coverage is offered should also be an integral part of your selection. Although there is now widespread mobile phone service in the majority of the UK, pockets still exist where some networks’ coverage is superior to others. You should therefore choose a network which has guaranteed service in your area.
Here’s the situation: there are hundreds of phone deals out there. At usave, we compare mobile phone deals on your behalf, but we’ve got a whole host of preferences for you to fine-tune your search and help you find a deal that’s truly best for you.
So first up: you’ve chosen how you want to pay for your phone, so select either Pay Monthly or SIM Only deals when you run your mobile comparison.
Next, have a real think about how much data, minutes and texts you need. Most packages now come with unlimited texts and minutes, but data consumption is trickier to gauge. Consider your current plan amd whether you feel like you’re constantly watching your usage and thinking about your habits. And while minutes are generally unlimited, international calls aren’t typically included, so you may want to add these on as a bundle if you need them.
Ask yourself: how much do you realistically want to pay? Decide on a cost and select to see deals within your budget. You can also choose your ideal contract length which, remember, you’re obliged to pay in full.
If you’re looking to save money on handsets then take a look at our refurbished phone deals. Second-hand doesn’t mean second-rate and some of the best mobile deals can be found on refurbs.
You can also take advantage of cashback or rewards. Cashback might be a reduction in your contract price, data rollover opportunities may mean you don’t have to subscribe to a ‘use it or lose it’ policy, or you could get your first month for free. In order to get the best mobile phone deal, consider these rewards and gifts and calculate the benefit – you could end up getting a bargain you never anticipated!
Run a mobile phone comparison with us here at usave to find the best deal on the market for you. Once you’ve made your decision about what type of contract you want, follow our tips above to be sure you’re getting a personalised search with all your preferences. Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for those rewards too!
