Plusnet Increasing Broadband Prices

Customers of Plusnet have been informed they will be facing price increases in June for broadband packages and out-of-allowance call costs.

The ISP is set to increase prices across their whole range of broadband packages by £1 per month on the 5th of June.

Plusnet have also released their price increases for calls coming into effect at the same time:

  • The cost of set up fees for calls will rise by 1p to 22p
  • The price of standard rate calls made to UK landlines will increase from 12.54 per minute to 13.5p per minute
  • Calls made to mobiles will rise from 14.65p per minute to 15p per minute

A spokesperson for Plusnet made the following statement “Over the past year we’ve been working really hard to make improvements to our products and services that will make your experience as a Plusnet customer better than ever.”

Plusnet is in no way unique in raising prices, with most broadband providers announcing a series of price hikes earlier on this year. A key factor behind this is ISPs attempting to remain profitable after having to compensate for increasing data consumption across their “unlimited tariffs”. Increasingly meagre revenue generated from price per minute landline calls are also playing a part as the fixed phone line becomes more and more obsolete.

Despite the price hike there is some silver lining for Plusnet customers: firstly, the “caller display” service which handles nuisance calls for 99p per month will become free on the same day of the price increases. Customers on tariffs that do increase in price will also be given the option of terminating their contract free of charge. There is also good news for those Plusnet customers who use the BT Sport app as they will now to use the app anywhere within the EU.

If you feel that you are not getting a fair deal from your ISP after a price increase then it’s always worth entering a dialogue with your provider and expressing that you wish to leave. Often there is a deal that they will offer to you to keep you as a customer. If you have had issues in the past, then you can use these as leverage and try to get yourself a discount. If this doesn’t work then it’s always worth shopping around, check out our handy broadband comparison tool to see if there’s any better offers in your area.
