Apple iPhone 13 5G network options
At a glance
- 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen
- Apple’s latest A15 Bionic processor
- Improved battery life
- Smaller notch than predecessors
- Dual 12MP rear cameras
Highlights
- Released in September 2021, the iPhone 13 is the latest iPhone and uses the new A15 Bionic processor which is Apple’s fastest and most efficient chip yet.
- Available in a range of bright, new colours including Starlight (white), Midnight (black), blue, pink, and PRODUCT (red).
- The Face ID notch (where the selfie camera is located) is 20% smaller than previous models, giving more room for the vibrant OLED display.
Design & Appearance
While at first glance the iPhone 13 may not look very different to the iPhone 12, on closer inspection you’ll notice the notch is slightly smaller. This 20% reduction in size doesn’t affect the quality of the front-facing camera, but it gives the screen a more immersive feel.
Another change in appearance compared to previous models is that the two rear cameras are aligned diagonally compared to vertically.
Measuring 146.7mmx71.5mmx7.65mm and weighing 174 grams, it’s slightly thicker and heavier than the iPhone 12, but the difference is so marginal you’re unlikely to notice.
Camera
The iPhone 13 has two 12-megapixel cameras on the rear, including an f/2.4 ultra wide-angle lens and an f/1.6 wide-angle lens. It also has a 12-megapixel f/2.2 camera on the front for selfies.
What sets the iPhone 13’s camera apart from previous models, however, is the wide camera’s larger sensor which, according to Apple, lets in 47% more light.
The new Photographic Styles feature allows you to use adjustable filters including Vibrant, Rich Contrast, Warm, and Cool. It also has an improved Night Mode and has a better performance in low-light environments such as indoors.
Display
The iPhone 13 has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, with a 2532x1170 resolution at 460 pixels per inch.
While the screen size and resolution are the same as the iPhone 12, it’s display is 28% brighter than its predecessor, with Apple claiming it to be its brightest yet.
Software & Features
Running on Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 15, the iPhone 13 comes with a number of new features. This includes the new Focus mode, which allows for easier access to the Do Not Disturb mode options to turn off certain notifications – great for when you’re working or trying to get some rest.
It also has an improved Siri functionality, a new design when browsing with Safari, and it now allows for video-calling non-Apple smartphones via FaceTime.
Performance
Powered by Apple’s latest processor, the A15 Bionic chip, the iPhone 13 is both faster and more efficient than previous generations. It also starts with 128GB of internal storage – double that of the iPhone 12.
Meanwhile, Apple claims its much-improved battery life can last a whole day, something which has let previous generations of iPhones down.
