Offers from over 15 providers
TalkTalk started in 2003 as a value provider and has since grown to become one of the four biggest broadband providers in the UK. They are also one of only five providers in the UK to offer broadband, phone and tv services, making them a one stop shop for any customer. They offer a wide range of broadband deals ranging from basic ADSL to high speed fibre optic broadband. TalkTalk packages all come with line rental included – unfortunately they do not currently offer broadband only deals and so you will have to get a phone line as well if you sign up with them.

TalkTalk’s most cost-effective broadband offering is their TalkTalk Unlimited Broadband, which offers average downloads speeds of 11Mbps. This should be enough to download apps and movies, as well as for streaming (though it might struggle with higher quality streams). TalkTalk offer this particular deal on a 12-month contract, which is a massive bonus considering the 18-month contract is starting to become far more common. These shorter contracts are going to be more expensive however, so it’s always worth deciding whether you value higher flexibility or a more competitive price.
If you want to opt for a faster fibre optic broadband connection, then TalkTalk currently offer two different speeds: Faster Fibre 38Mbps is the more cost effective option, and their Faster Fibre with speed boost, with download speeds of up to 76Mbps is their top of the range fibre optic deal. They also offer competitive upload speeds as well, with 1.9 Mbps if you go for their lower bracket fibre speed of 38Mpbs, and a whopping 19Mpbs of upload if you go for the maximum 63Mpbs option.
TalkTalk offer unlimited usage on all available broadband deals meaning you will never be hit with excess charges. As with the previous offer, the fibre optic deals are available on a 12 month contract as well as 18 and 24 months but you will of course pay more for the shorter term.
TalkTalk also offers limited G.fast services, which provide far higher speeds without having to run additional fibre into your home. Currently these speeds are only available in a selection of UK towns but if you’re lucky enough to reside in one of these you can enjoy 140 Mbps speeds for £40 per month or 300 Mbps speeds for £50 per month. Both of these prices are based on a standard 18-month contract.
Many budget broadband providers do not offer many add-ons, but TalkTalk throw in some great additions such as their flagship Super Router as well Home Safe online protection. They also offer a price guarantee for the duration of your contract meaning that there will be no price increases. This combined with unlimited usage as standard and the fact that you don’t have to pay any up front costs for any broadband package means that you always know exactly how much you are going to be paying each month with no nasty surprises.
All TalkTalk broadband deals come with phone line included, but you will have to pay for any additional calls you make unless you purchase one of their call bundles. The most basic call bundle for calls to the UK is the TalkTalk Unlimited UK Calls Boost which allows you to call any landline or mobile 24/7 365 days a year for £10 per month. They also offer different deals for international phone packages, ranging from discounted minutes for calls abroad to set amounts of minutes for calls to 50 different counties.
TalkTalk also offer mobile phone packages, specialising in low-cost, simple contracts. TalkTalk mobile contracts are available on either a monthly rolling or 12-month contract, with both SIM-only and device plans on offer. Their mobile plans can be combined with your TV and/or broadband package resulting one simple monthly payment.
TalkTalk offer TV services as an add-on to some to some of their broadband deals. All packages that include TV will have a minimum of 80 channels to choose from with the most cost-effective starting at £4 per month - with a free top box. You can also opt for the TV+ package for an additional one-off cost of £50. This gives you 300GB of storage so that you can record your favourite shows, and gives you the ability to pause and rewind live TV.
The standard TV+ package gives you 80 free view channels, normal catch up services as well as 6 additional Sky entertainment channels. You can also tailor your TV package from TalkTalk by adding certain elements to it called boosts, these can include sports and movie packages as well as entertainment although these will come as more of a premium.
One of the great advantages of the bolt-on features is that you can customize the services you receive so you only every pay for channels or apps that you use. This combined with the fact that all bolt on services for TalkTalk are monthly rolling means that you have a huge amount of flexibility in what you watch and pay for each month.
Various broadband deals have different set up costs attached to them some of these come without charge but some will incur a setup fee, these are never that much however and will never exceed £25.
As with most broadband providers, the cost of line rental is included in the cost of the broadband deal, you will however have to pay for any additional calls you make or purchase a calls package.

TalkTalk’s main selling points would be customisability of packages, contract flexibility and value for money. The different offers give you a lot of control, allowing you to dictate exactly what you pay for and, in the cases of the monthly rolling TV bolt-ons, allowing you to opt out if you feel you are not getting good use out of something. While TalkTalk might fall down slightly against other providers in terms of internet speed and overall customer experience, they would perfectly suit the user who craves more flexibility than the usual and is more cost-conscious. The price guarantee and options for shorter contracts reduce the chances of being stuck with something that you may not need and the wide range of speeds and services means that everyone will be able to find something that suits them.
