What is Virgin Media fibre?
Virgin Media fibre refers to all of the providers full fibre, or FTTP, packages. As Virgin Media is the only major broadband provider in the UK that uses its own network and infrastructure to deliver internet to homes and businesses, it’s full fibre deals have been faster, and around for longer, than most. However, it’s network still doesn’t cover the whole of the country, so make sure to compare deals in your postcode first.
What fibre packages do Virgin Media offer?
Virgin Media currently offers 6 levels of full fibre broadband, ranging from 54Mbps up to a market-leading 1,130Mbps. Prices currently range from £33 to £85 per month on broadband only packages, while a number of TV and mobile bundles are also available.
M50 Fibre Broadband
This is Virgin Media’s entry-level broadband package, but unlike most other providers’ baseline deals, this is not an ADSL connection. This fibre deal provides average download speeds of 54Mbps, and an average upload speed of 5Mbps. These speeds should suffice for medium-sized households of internet users.
M100 Fibre Broadband
Virgin Media’s next best package provides impressive average download speeds of 108Mbps and upload speeds of 20Mbps. These speeds should be enough for households of around 5internet users who like to stream or play online games simultaneously.

It is worth keeping in mind that Virgin’s upload speeds tend to be slower than its competitors. TalkTalk’s most basic fibre-optic package promises upload speeds of 9.5Mbps, whereas Virgin’s is only 5Mbps. This isn’t a deal breaker for most, but if you upload a lot of content, such as long videos, then it is definitely worth considering your options.
Price: How do Virgin Media fibre deals compare to alternatives?
Virgin Media M50 alternatives
Virgin Media M50 Fibre Broadband Only currently costs £38 per month, but for the same price you could be getting almost four times the download speed (200Mbps) with Vodafone’s Pro Ultrafast 200 package, which also comes with Amazon’s Alexa built in to the router.
If you’re happy with 54Mbps, however, you should take a look at Hyperoptic’s Fast 50Mbps Broadband only deal (57Mbps), which costs just £20 per month on a 24-month contract. Virgin Media M100 alternatives
Virgin Media’s M100 Fibre Broadband Only deal is currently £44 per month, but for the same price you could be getting almost five times those speeds (522Mbps) with Hyperoptic’s Fast 500Mbps Broadband + Phone package, if you’re lucky enough to live in an area which is served by the provider.
If you’re happy with around 100Mbps download speeds, however, consider KCOM’s Full Fibre 100 deal, which comes in at less than half the price of Virgin Media’s package (£19.99). Again though, you’ll have to be lucky to be served by KCOM, as it currently only operates in Hull.

Virgin Media’s M200 Fibre Broadband Only package will currently cost you £50 per month, but you could be getting gigabit speeds for that price with EE’s Fibre Max 900 deal.
Alternatively, if you’re happy with around 200Mbps download speed, you could save almost half the cash by going for Vodafone’s Ultrafast 200 deal (£27.50 per month).

While Virgin Media’s M350 Fibre Broadband Only package will set you back £56 per month, for the same price you could be getting more speed as well as a TV subscription (Sky Signature) with Sky’s Ultrafast Broadband Plus + Sky TV deal.
If you’re not after higher speeds, however, and just want better value for your money, you should consider Gigaclear’s Ultrafast 400 with Smart WiFi package, which currently offers 400Mbps download speeds for just £24 per month. However, you’ll need to be in a rural area that is covered by Gigaclear to be eligible.

Virgin Media’s M500 Fibre Broadband only deal isn’t cheap, currently costing £62 per month. But for £1 less each month, you could be gettin 910Mbps on average with Vodafone’s Pro Gigafast 900 Xtra deal, which also has Alexa built-in.
If you’re happy around the 500Mbps mark, however, take a look at Hyperoptic’s Fast 500Mbps Broadband Only deal, which offers 522Mbps download speeds for just £28 per month. What’s more, this is on a rolling, monthly contract, which is great for flexibility as it allows you to switch providers without penalty whenever you wish.

Virgin Media Gig1 alternatives
Virgin Media’s Gig1 Fibre Broadband only is actually currently cheaper than the M500 package, costing just £60 per month, so is great value for money. However, if you don’t require that much speed, you could add in a Sky Sports and TV subscription for the same price, with Sky’s Superfast Broadband + Sky TV + Sports package (59Mbps).
In terms of speed, you won’t find anything that can currently match those of Virgin Media’s Gig1 deal, but the closest you can get is 920Mbps from Community Fibre’s 1 Gbps Fibre Broadband deal, which currently costs a remarkably cheap £25 per month - if you’re lucky enough to be in an area served by them.
